Tis the season to be volley!

Let's smash it

This week’s article is in honour of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships starting next week. I am looking forward to being on centre court for the Quarter Finals.

"Enduring means accepting. Accepting things as they are and not as you would wish them to be, and then looking ahead, not behind''

—Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal's never say die attitude makes him a true inspiration. I would love to be able to interview him to pick his brains on how he is so focused and motivated in every situation. (..Watch this space!)

From being one of his biggest fans from across the world and to write about him in honour of his pending retirement in 2024, here is what I learn from Rafael Nadal:

His level of motivation and energy is something to uphold.

He believes in every point and will play it with the same vigour from the start until the end.

Even when Rafael is down and losing the game, he's never out. His level of self belief is unfaltering.

I am fortunate to have watched him play on several occasions. The level of talent and determination he has is something to behold.

"I think it's the mark of a great player to be confident in tough situations."

—John McEnroe

"The Bull," as Nadal is sometimes called, enters every match believing he will win. Behind his modest and humble exterior exists an everlasting confidence.

Bulls are characteristic of being very muscular and having thick bones. They are determined animals that will fight for what they want (until the end).

“I've been motivated by overcoming challenge and overcoming the hurdles and obstacles that face me. There still is plenty out there to get motivated by.”

—Andre Agassi

How can we use this to inspire us?

  • To build our confidence and belief in ourselves

  • Not to falter when things don't go our way, to continue to believe we can reach it

  • Push ourselves out of our comfort zone

  • Create a new motivation to make a difference in our lives and in the lives of our family and the community

  • To build on our self beliefs and in the goals we can achieve

  • To take the action steps to make these happen

  • To continually thinking outside the box

  • To push our creativity

“More than anything, believe that You can win”
